Welcome to MommyTopics.com!

Hi! I’m Rachymommy… I know you’re on this post to find out more About Me so let’s get to it.

I was born and raised in Southern California and have lived here my whole life.  My mom, being the self made woman, college graduate, and single mother that she is, felt it was imperative that I and my younger brother attend private schools growing up, one of which was a Christian school.

In the 6th grade I learned that I was the only kid in my class not attending a church. Due to peer pressure I begged my mom to start taking us to a Sunday morning service and… she did.  Two weeks before my eighth grade school year began I became a Christian and my life was changed for the better.

Of course I didn’t make a full transformation overnight and there was plenty of groundwork already laid in my life that would take years of undoing.

Because I was raised by a single mom, much of my childhood in the 80’s was spent watching John Hughes films with babysitters.

My teen years were therefore, spent aspiring to be Cindy Mancini from the movie “Can’t Buy Me Love”. (I know… not a John Hughes film, but still a major 80’s hit… and for some reason the one I latched onto.  Maybe because Amanda Peterson who played Cindy had blonde hair like me, and Molly Ringwald had red hair which I just couldn’t quite relate to.  Same issue with Anne of Green Gables, I like her, but I didn’t really relate to her… again the whole red hair thing.  But don’t get me wrong… I really like red heads.  Some of my dearest “bosom” friends have been and are redheads. Ahem! Let’s keep moving shall we?)

It was a misguided existence.

- Learn to apply makeup and fashionably style blonde hair  – Check!

- School is not about academics. It’s about controlling how you’re viewed by peers – Check!

- Focus on social life and try to achieve “popular” status – Check!

- Become Cheerleader – Check!

- Parade around in college boyfriend’s letterman jacket – Check!

- Fix my mom’s suede outfit I stained by taking payment from a geeky guy who mows my lawn, in exchange for making him popular –  uh… not so much.

Moving on…

After high school I started jr. college, because:

  1. I was too young and scared to move away from home and go to a major University.
  2. I had no idea what to do with my future besides wanting to be a wife and mother.
  3. I had to put myself somewhere with guys my age so my husband could find me.

It worked!  My husband found me and swept me off my feet!

I met the love of my life before deciding on a major and abandoned higher education. We got married and I worked odd jobs to pay the bills while my hubby went on to a four year University and got a degree in Computer Science.  And oh yeah… along the way we had our first of three babies. You can learn more about my family here.

Bye-bye Cindy Mancini.  Hello Proverbs 31 woman!

These days I’m a busy stay-at-home-mom juggling the duties of homemaking, home schooling, relationships with family and friends, personal spiritual growth, continued self-education, civic responsibilities, and on and on the list goes.

Jesus is my Savior!

Laundry is my nemesis! Easy to wash… much more difficult to get put away.

In my case, “youth” was clearly “wasted on the young”.  Now in my thirties I CRAVE education of every kind and I wish I had more time to study, study, study. I believe in being a lifetime learner and inspiring my kids to become the same.  I advocate continually pursuing the written word, experiences, and mentors to answer questions and achieve any desired pursuit.

One of my dreams is to someday become an author and illustrator of children’s books.  Peter Pan is my all time favorite work of fiction. I find it brilliantly beautiful and imaginative, and I secretly wish I had written it myself. I also secretly wish I had created the illustration above but alas… it is the wonderful work of artist Peter Hawley.

The Diary of Anne Frank is one of my most favorite non-fiction books and it is what inspired me at a very young age to pursue writing.

I’d also like to learn more about world history, classic literature, and photography.

I’m trying to eat better and provide healthier food choices for my family one organic, whole food, chemical free, step at a time…. I’m not there yet, but I’m trying. I’ve started with peanut butter and jelly. I told you… one step at a time. (I haven’t even found the right organic bread yet… I’ll let you know when I do…I’m open to suggestions).

This is my personal trainer… Gilad.  He and I meet up whenever I click play on my DVR and… we work out.  I’m trying to add a consistent regimen of daily exercise to my busy life. I hate exercising!

But I know I must…. sigh.

It is however a constant thorn in my pudgy side.

In the evenings when the kiddies are in bed I usually read, write, or just relax with the hubby and watch TV… typically news or a reality show.

I’ve got my hands full like a typical mom, but the BLESSINGS are worth the chaos!

Thanks for letting me share my journey with you, and I’d love it if you’d share bits of yours with me here… at MommyTopics.com
