“Hello, Cupcake” Challenge

Tomorrow is Christmas Eve. We’re done with all of our baking, but I’m still working on editing and uploading the pictures of all of our Christmas Cookies.
I thought I’d wet your appetite by giving you a glimpse of my Cupcakes I’ve entered into the “Hello, Cupcake” Challenge on Facebook.
“Hello, Cupcake” is my most favorite cupcake book. I’ve talked about it plenty on this blog and made a few of their designs. I thought I would forever be copying their ideas until they challenged me to come up with one of my own.
“What’s New Cupcake?” is the new book being released in April 2010, created by the same authors as “Hello Cupcake.” In honor of their new book they are holding a cupcake contest on Facebook… Here are the details:
“Want to win an autographed copy of What’s New, Cupcake? Want to show off your cupcaking skills?
During this baking season, show off your talents by coming up with a new cupcake design using only cupcakes, frosting, and one or all of the following candies:
Jelly Belly Jelly Beans
Marshmallows
Gummy bears
Wafer cookies
M&M’s Minis
Submission deadline is January 31, 2010. You have a chance to win one of five books when they are published in April.”
So here’s what I came up with…

It’s the Big Guy Himself. Santa!
His eyes and hat pom-pom are made from mini marshmallows. Everything else is cupcake and frosting.

This is Frank. He is the most stable of all the Elves.
Frank’s hat is rimmed with mini M&Ms and his hat pom-pom is a mini marshmallow.

This is Kissy. She’s a sweety. Harmless. Basically stable as well.
Frank is proposing to her on Christmas Eve….. shhhhhhhh! Don’t let the secret out.

This is Howard. He’s a good guy… just a little paranoid. He’s always freaking out and lives in a perpetual state of shock.
“Prancer’s a girl?!
“Santa’s my uncle??!!!
“No trans fat” doesn’t truly mean, NO trans fat???!!!

And this is Bucky. Clearly… not stable.
And I like to try and stick to that rule from Bambi about how, “If you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all,” so… we’ll move on.

And last but not least, a reindeer who needs no introductions, the guiding light to Santa’s sleigh even on the foggiest of nights….
Pinnochio!
Doh!
I mean… Rudolph. Rudolph!
Sorry about that buddy. Honest mistake. No hard feelings I hope.
Rudolph’s antlers are made from gummy bears covered in frosting and stuck on toothpicks, inserted into the cupcake. They are also adorned with mini M&Ms.

And that’s the crew.
Things really slow down for them come December 26th so they are super excited about being involved in a cupcake contest.
I didn’t use any Cookie Wafers or Jelly Beans… I hope that’s okay.
If you want to try your hand at some new cupcake designs, head on over to the “Hello Cupcake Challenge” on Facebook” and give it a whirl. If you don’t want to give it a try you can still head on over and check out all the other fun ideas people are submitting.
Contest runs until January 31, 2010.
Merry Christmas!!! And Happy Cupcakey! (Not a real phrase.. but it should be.)
