Painting a Window Sill Garden

Remy was given this Mini Window Sill Garden set for her birthday.
Painting it and planting it made a perfect Summer Family Fun Activity for the two of us.

It came with everything we needed to decorate our pots, fill them with soil, stick in the seeds, and water them each day.
It even came with these cute little gardening tools which Remy loves.

She painted the watering can.

I painted a pot.

We painted the dish together.

We had a lot of fun.

Notice once again that this activity took place, not in my kitchen, not in my dining room, not on my counter, but OUTSIDE. I insist on letting my kids indulge in the messiness and creativity of childhood, but I try to make sure that indulgence happens outdoors as often as possible.

After a day of our pieces drying we were ready to plant our seeds.
Remy insisted on filling the pots with soil, scoop by scoop, with her little garden shovel.
Once the pots were filled to the top she also raked the dirt smooth, and used the hoe to pull bits of dirt out of the way, in order to plant her seeds.

And then came the watering.

And then came the sun.
Grabbing a craft kit like this and putting it together with your kids one afternoon, is such a great way to spend some time together. It’s easy to do, inexpensive, and it thrills little ones to no end.
Remy continues to be thrilled with her little garden each day as she waters it and I know she’s going to love it once her grass is tall enough to give a trim.
