My Love Story – The Introduction
This coming summer of 2010 will mark the ten year wedding anniversary for my husband and I. In honor of that celebration I’d love to spend some time reflecting on our marriage and sharing thoughts about it here on my blog.
It was exactly ten years ago today, that we had our very first date.
It was December 31, 1999. It was raining. I’d spent almost the entire day snuggled up under a warm blanket in my pajamas, on the living room couch of my apartment. One of my roommates was on the adjacent couch. The two of us had been relaxing, enjoying the rain outside our patio door, and watching the New Year’s Eve festivities from around the world, on TV. I wish they did that every year. Do you remember it? It was a huge deal because it was the eve before the new Millenium. And, it was the eve before the big unknown mystery which had been referred to as Y2K. The world was supposed to explode after midnight… or something like that.
It was after midnight and I was back on that very couch, but this time I was alone with my date. We’d been out all evening, first to dinner, then to a friend’s concert, then to a small gathering at a friend’s house, where we celebrated the New Year. After midnight, my date brought me home.
He and I had been hanging out as friends, always in a group setting, for about six months. We’d been flirting, instant messaging from our computers, and we both knew something was developing between us. This was the first night we had gone out alone, and the first time he’d asked me on an actual date.
I invited him in after our evening out, to stay and watch a movie. We watched the movie for a bit and soon enough we were holding hands. The butterflies were doing summersaults. It wasn’t long before I was snuggled up against him, under the warmth of his arm with my head resting against his chest. It was wonderful. And then… like I had been hoping for ever since he asked me out for New Year’s Eve…
He kissed me. It was amazing. Wonderful. Electric. Passionate. Strong. Bewildering. I got lost in it.
Y2K had arrived and they were right… after midnight the world exploded.
To be continued…

I got goosebumps from your story! What a wonderful first date of the many you’ve had over the last 10 years!
My husband and I started hanging out in the realms of ‘friends who like eachother’ in December of 2000. It was today, well, December 31st of 2000 that I got food poisoning & he spent his New Year’s Eve taking care of me. I knew I had snagged a good guy! It only got better from there!
