Summer Family Fun Tuesdays – 4th of July

I love the 4th of July.
I love this country.
I’m vastly proud to be an American, and so, so, so very grateful.
And I love all the festivities that the 4th of July holds.

Yep… I’m one of those moms who goes out and buys her whole family matching 4th of July T’s at Old Navy or Walmart…

Puts a patriotic bow in my little girl’s hair…

Supplies her kids with red, white, and blue flip flops…
And when 4th of July falls on a Sunday like it did this year, it’s off to church we go.

After church this year we had a BBQ at home, out on the porch with Nana and Papa.
We ate chips and salsa, cheeseburgers, and homemade popsicles.
And do you ever have one of those summer days where you decide to pack every hour full of fun…
Well, that’s what we did this year on the 4th.

After lunch we headed down to the theater to see Toy Story 3.
I know… we must be the last family with little kids on the planet to go see it, but…
The theater was completely packed! I was surprised. And yes…
My husband and I were both choking back tears several times toward the end of the movie.
And… the tortilla was hilarious!

After the movie we went home, grabbed sweaters and jackets, and headed down to the same park I’ve been watching fireworks at for twenty years.
The whole town turns out for the big event.

There are jolly jumps and slides for the kids.

And of course vendors selling all kinds of treats.

And then once the sun has completely gone down, around 9pm, we all sit together on blankets and in chairs, snacking on hot, fresh, Kettle Korn, and watching the fireworks.
We point out which explosions are our favorite, and sing along to the patriotic anthems booming through park.
I love the 4th of July.
