Family Fun at the County Fair

I love kicking off the Summer, with a Family trip to the Fair!
My parents first met each other in their twenties, while both working concessions at the Del Mar Fair in Southern California. As a young child they would often take me out to breakfast and then announce that the Fair was in town and that’s where we were headed next, at which point I would jump up and down and squeal with excitement.
My parents took me to the fair each year while growing up and once I could drive, I began dragging just about every friend I’ve ever had, to the Fair with me.
Have you ever noticed that there are lots of people who just never go the fair? Most the people I know in fact have never made visiting their County Fair an annual ritual like I have. Some people have all kinds of reservations based on their suspicions about the fair such as: it’s dirty, creepy, boring, and overpriced.
Well… as an EXTREMELY experienced Fair goer I’m here to tell you none of those things are true. The Fair is a BLAST!!!

My own kids now love the fair just as much as I always have.
The Fair is so fun in fact that I’ve always had a difficult time deciding which I was more excited to go to, the Fair, or Disneyland??? Seriously. I love the Fair that much!
After taking my kids to the Fair this last week I asked the same question to my 8 year old and he responded saying it was also a really tough decision for him.
He did finally come to the conclusion that Disneyland IS a little bit better than the Fair… but just a little bit. He really wanted to make that point clear. Just… a little bit.
I agree.

Our Family loves the delicious foods available at the Fair!

We also like to look at all the crazy foods we would never eat but are hilarious to behold. You can get just about anything deep fried, or covered in chocolate, when you’re at the Fair.

We love looking at all the Farm animals and getting to see them up close and pet them.

We love the Games and Prizes!

We love checking out all of the Vendor Booths and seeing what everyone is selling. There are always new inventions to discover and great deals on fun and helpful products.
Over the years my family has made all kinds of purchases at the San Diego County Fair including a set of Encyclopedia Britannicas when I was 8, a day bed for my room when I was 10, sunglasses, curling irons, toys, a steamer, and many many many other gadgets and souvenirs.

And of course… We love the Rides!

And we love staying and having fun late into the night when the Fair comes alive with bright lights and exciting thrills.
We love the Fair! Come back all this week for more posts on our experiences with the rides, games, food, shopping, and fun!

Ooooh, I love the fair too!!!…..one of my first blog posts (almost 2 years ago now!) was about our first trip to our local fair!!….I’ve linked it up…..it’s an old post but so much fun!!!
You just brought back so many happy memories for me! I used to love the fairs growing up in Canada. We don’t really have fairs like that here in England – there’s funfairs with the rides and stuff and county fairs with the animals, but nothing combined like there is in North America. When our son was little we took him to some of the fairs in Canada when we were visiting Grandma and Grandpa and he couldn’t believe all the things there were to see and do – it was lovely.
I love the fair too! I have my food traditions that I must have; like the hot gingerbread with the cold whipped cream on top. Love the photography exhibits, the animals, and all the slice it, dice it, mash it, bash it, gadgets for sale.
